Is Doula Support Covered by Insurance in California?

Yes — in many cases.

Medi-Cal Doula Coverage

As of 2023, Medi-Cal covers doula services in California. If you are enrolled in Medi-Cal, you may be eligible for:

Prenatal visits
Labor and birth support
Extended postpartum care

If you’re unsure whether your plan qualifies, I can help you verify your benefits and navigate the process.

I am a registered Medi-Cal provider and can contract with most local insurance plans.

PPO Doula Coverage

Some PPO insurance plans reimburse families for doula care and/or as an out-of-network provider.

While coverage varies by plan, I can provide:

Superbills for submitting insurance/HSA/FSA reimbursement claims
Detailed invoices
Documentation for reimbursement submission

I recommend calling your insurance provider and asking:

Is out-of-network doula care reimbursable?
What percentage is covered?
Is preauthorization required?

HSA & FSA for Doula Services

Many families use:

Health Savings Accounts (HSA)
Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA)

to pay for doula support. I can provide itemized receipts for submission.

Private Pay, Sliding Scale & Accessibility

I believe birth support should be accessible. A limited number of sliding scale spots are available each year. Please reach out if cost is a barrier — we can explore options together.

Full Spectrum Doula Support

Outlined and prepared sessions with personalized prenatal care, labor and birth support and integrative postpartum care.

Payments installments and deposit are due before every prenatal session or before start of an individualized service addition.

$2300 total one-time payment

Payment installment plans available with initial $600 deposit

3 Prenatal visits with grounding Sessions
Birth Preferences drafting and creation
Sibling plan drafting and creation if applicable
Birth Partner preparation, support and advocacy
On-call support at 38 weeks
Continuous comfort measures support and advocacy through labor and birth
Birth photography/video by request
1-2 hours immediate postpartum care
2 Postpartum visits

Extended Postpartum Visits

Postpartum care is tailored to your family’s needs — whether that’s newborn education, emotional processing, lactation support, or overnight care so you can rest. I am another set of hands for housework, infant care, more sleep, or just some time for yourself. I am another set of ears to listen and hold space for you.

Day Rate: $180/4 hour block

Overnight Rate (after 8pm): starting at $55/hour for 6 hour minimum. Engagement level of wake hours will change rate. What makes sense for your household can be discussed at any time.

Prenatal/Postnatal Yoga

Private or with your birth partner.

1 hour session: $65

90 min Postnatal Integral Hatha: $75

Other Services

1.5 hour Sound Tuning Healing: $90

1 hour Crystal Bowl Sound Healing: $150
